Supervisors - HDR

Each doctoral student has a thesis director and, if necessary, a co-director and/or co-supervisors.
The I-MEP² Doctoral School recommends that a thesis supervision team should not exceed 2 people, and not authorize more than 4 people.

The Order of May 25, 2016 on the doctoral student specifies:

i/ extrait de l'article 10 : The doctorate is prepared in a doctoral school under the responsibility of accredited institutions, within a research unit or team recognized following evaluation by the Haut Conseil de l'évaluation de la recherche et de l'enseignement supérieur or other bodies whose procedures it validates, and under the responsibility of a thesis director affiliated to this school, or as part of a co-directorship as mentioned in article 16 of this decree.
ii/ extrait de l'article 16 : Doctoral students are placed under the supervision and responsibility of a thesis director. The scientific direction of the doctoral project may be carried out jointly with a co-director.
In consultation with its board, the I-MEP² Doctoral School proposes the following practices:

Case A: Thesis co-supervised by a researcher from a "university / research unit / research organization" not affiliated to the I-MEP2 Doctoral School and external to the Alpine sites (co-directed or cotutelle thesis).
The thesis is supervised by a thesis director (HDR from the I-MEP² Doctoral School), a co-director (HDR or equivalent) from the partner university/research unit/research organization, and a maximum of 2 co-supervisors (HDR or not).

Case B: Thesis prepared exclusively in a university/research unit/research organization attached to the I-MEP² Doctoral School (UGA or USMB thesis)The thesis is supervised by a thesis director (HDR from the I-MEP² ED) and, if necessary, co-supervisors (HDR or not), up to a maximum of 3.

Thesis follow-up and defense

In addition to the usual supervisory tasks relating to the "research" part of the PhD, thesis supervisors must :
  • set up Individual Follow-up Committees (CSI) and ensure that the CSI report is submitted to the I-MEP² Doctoral School (mandatory for each re-registration).
  • guarantee that the information sent to the I-MEP² Doctoral School concerning the thesis jury and the status of jury members (employer, HDR or non-HDR, grade) is correct. Any non-compliant jury may invalidate the thesis diploma.
