CSI - Thesis Monitoring Committee
Thesis Monitoring Committee (CSI)
In accordance with the decree of May 25, 2016 on the doctorate, modified by the decree of August 26, 2022 and the provisions voted by the Doctoral School Council on November 16, 2023.The organization and submission of the CSI report is mandatory for each thesis re-registration.
Beginning of thesis | CSI |
September-December | June-July |
January-April | August-September |
Composition of the CSI
1- the committee is made up of a minimum of 2 members, who are PhDs and active researchers.
2 - all members are external to the research teams to which the supervisor and doctoral student belong.
3 - the committee includes an HDR member from a UMR/UPR*, external to the research laboratory(ies) to which the supervisor(s) and doctoral student belong, and not a specialist** in the thesis research field.
4 - the members of the CSI remain the same (except in the case of major impossibility) throughout the duration of the thesis.
As far as possible, one of the ISC members will be from outside Grenoble and outside the I-MEP² Doctoral School.
* UMR : Unité Mixte de Recherche (Joint Research Unit) - UPR : Unités propres de recherche (Own Research Units)
** the doctoral student must provide the Doctoral School with a short argument (to be sent ed-imep2@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr) explaining why this member is not a specialist in the thesis research field.
Notes:
- When selecting CSI members, care must be taken to avoid any relationship of subordination with the doctoral student.
- A member of the CSI cannot be the rapporteur for the doctoral student's defense. However, they can be examiners and/or jury chairmen.
Deadlines
You must set up your committee by April 30. Committee members must be validated by the I-MEP² Doctoral School.
- Submission of names of CSI members; to be done via your ADUM page (heading "Comité de suivi individuel") > before April 30
- Progress report sent to CSI members by e-mail
- Organization of CSI (dates to be respected: see board)
- Signed CSI report sent to the I-MEP² Doctoral School via ADUM
For 3rd year students, if the defense is held before 12/31 of the year, you are not required to organize a CSI and you do not have to re-enroll in 4th year. You will need to provide us with your defense jury 3 months before the date set for your defense and your defense file 2 months before the date of your defense.
Candidates for admission to 4th year thesis :
If you defend your thesis after 12/31, you'll have to re-enroll in the 4th year. If in October you have a defense date for the beginning of the following year and a jury, you do a very light 3rd CSI. All you have to do is pass on this information to the CSI members and the Doctoral School.
Candidates for admission to 5th year (or more) of thesis :
Please contact the Doctoral School (ed-imep2@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr).
CSI proceedings
The doctoral student submits a 5-10 page summary of his/her thesis work to the CSI members by e-mail at least one week before the CSI date. At the same time, this document will be posted on the student's ADUM page under the heading "Doctoral progress";
CSI meeting
On a date chosen by all concerned (CSI members, doctoral student and thesis management team), the meeting with the members of the individual monitoring committee takes place in 4 stages as follows:
1. The doctoral student presents his or her research work and prospects during a 30-minute oral presentation;
2. This is followed by approximately 30 minutes of scientific exchange between the doctoral student and members of the CSI;
3. The doctoral student meets with members of the CSI to discuss the progress of the thesis, training already taken, supervision, working conditions, etc. Thesis supervisors DO NOT take part in this discussion;
4. Committee members meet with the thesis management team. The doctoral student does not take part in the exchange.
- 1. and 2. take place without the thesis supervisor, unless the doctoral student wishes his or her supervisors to be present;
- all interviews can be held by videoconference, if necessary.
CSI report
A report of the meeting is drawn up by the members of the CSI. It is the doctoral student's responsibility to have it signed by all parties (except the I-MEP² Doctoral School management) and to submit it to the I-MEP² Doctoral School via ADUM.
If all parties agree, the doctoral student will receive an e-mail from the I-MEP² Doctoral School indicating that he/she is authorized to re-enroll. The Doctoral College Registration Center will then contact the doctoral student to take further steps.
