_hold a doctorate or its equivalent, or proof of having carried out work with experience equivalent to that of a doctorate.
_proven experience in research (and development where applicable) and research supervision;
_have experience of supervising doctoral students, with a cumulative supervision rate for defended theses equal to or greater than 100%;
_have a significant scientific output (articles, patents, etc.) in their discipline and in the fields covered by the I-MEP² Doctoral School.

Note: the HDR committee will be attentive to the presence of publications co-authored with supervised doctoral students.

The application file is freely composed. It must include :

_A brief résumé, mentioning your career.
_List of publications and patents. These publications should be classified according to the usual criteria: international journals with reading committees, national journals with reading committees, international and national conferences (distinguishing between those with proceedings and reading committees), invited conferences, contract reports, etc.
_List of doctoral and post-doctoral students supervised or currently supervised. It is important to give a clear description of supervision activities, specifying the names of those supervised, the research topic, the dates of defense, the names of other co-supervisors and, in each case, an estimate of the individual's share of supervision.
_A few pages describing past research activities and prospects.

Following receipt of the complete file, the President of the HDR Committee appoints a Referent from among the members of the HDR Committee.

The application to register for the HDR is presented by the Referent to the HDR Committee.
If the opinion is favorable, a registration authorization valid for 2 years is issued.
The candidate can then start writing his/her manuscript.

HDR thesis
The HDR thesis is a free document. The dissertation may be written in French or English.
 By way of example, the HDR thesis could follow the following outline:
50 to 60 pages of original text with :

 - An introduction
 -  A detailed résumé of the candidate (5 pages)
 - Career overview - 2 à 3 pages
 - A description of the research carried out by the candidate and the doctoral students he/she has supervised, with particular emphasis on the candidate's scientific career - 30 to 40 pages
 - A presentation of the candidate's scientific reflections on the future of his research and the directions he wishes to take - a few pages
 - A general conclusion

The HDR document may be supplemented by the most significant articles (in extenso) published by the candidate.
Distinct from a thesis dissertation and of moderate length, this HDR thesis should enable the jury to appreciate the candidate's overall presentation of his or her work, as well as his or her scientific maturity. All supervisory or co-supervisory positions in research (DEA/Masters or Doctorates in particular) should be mentioned with great precision.

If necessary, the candidate can also call on his or her referee for any additional requests concerning the form of the manuscript.

Once the manuscript has been written, the candidate draws up the HDR defense jury proposal in consultation with his or her referee.
This proposal must be sent to the doctoral school at least 3 months before the defense date (= at least 2 weeks before the meeting of the HDR committee - dates HERE - which would itself take place at least 10 weeks before the defense date).

The proposed HDR defense jury will be composed as follows: 

The jury is made up of a minimum of five and a maximum of 8 members chosen from among staff authorized to supervise research in public higher education establishments, directors and senior researchers in public scientific and technological establishments, and at least half of whom are French or foreign personalities from outside the establishment, recognized for their scientific competence. At least half the jury must be made up of professors or equivalent, including at least one UGA university professor.

Rapporteurs :
- The jury must be made up of 3 rapporteurs, at least 2 of whom must be external to UGA and the I-MEP2 Doctoral School.
- Rapporteurs must be external to the candidate's laboratory/department/service.
- Rapporteurs will have no publications in common with the candidate.

Examinateurs :
- There will be at least 2, but no more than 5
- They must not be from the same laboratory as one of the rapporteurs.
- It is recommended to avoid personalities with whom a close collaboration is or has been established.
- If the candidate wishes, the Referee can be one of the examiners.

The candidate sends his or her manuscript and jury proposal to the HDR committee via his or her referee.
On a separate page, he also sends a declaration of any links of interest with each member of the jury (collaborations, articles, projects, research contracts, etc.).

The proposal for the HDR defense jury is discussed by the HDR committee.
The final version of the jury is issued by the HDR committee and forwarded to the doctoral college for validation.

Please note: This HDR committee must meet at least 10 weeks before the date of the defense, which means that the candidate must have already set a date for the defense (even an approximate date, at least the month envisaged) that is compatible with the HDR committee's meeting schedule (see the calendar HERE). Following this committee meeting, the manuscript is sent to the referees at least 8 weeks before the date of the defense.

Administrative registration is only possible once the HDR committee has given its approval and the doctoral college has approved the jury.
As soon as the defense date is known (at least approximately), the candidate can register with the Doctoral College's Registrar's Office (scol-sts@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr).  This involves payment of university fees for the year in which the candidate applies for the degree.
Registrations are only possible between the beginning of September and the end of April of the current academic year. Registrations are not possible between the beginning of May and the end of August.

Authorization to defend:
On the basis of the 3 rapporteurs' reports, the president of the HDR committee gives an opinion concerning defense authorization, which he forwards to the Collège Doctoral, which may, if necessary, authorize the HDR defense.

Defense:
The HDR defense is public and lasts approximately 50 minutes. The candidate gives a presentation on his or her work as a whole, followed by a discussion with the jury.
The jury examines the candidate's merits, assesses his or her ability to design, direct, lead and coordinate research and development activities, and decides on the accreditation.
The jury appoints a president from among its members.
The president of the jury is a PR or PRA, and must be a member of a University or UMR, or a member of an EPST.
After obtaining the opinions of the jury members, the jury president draws up a report. This report is countersigned by all jury members.

The diploma of "Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches" is awarded to candidates who have met the above requirements.
Following the defense, the President of the Jury sends the Procès-Verbal and the Rapport of the defense, duly completed and signed by all jury members, to the Doctoral College's Registrar's Office as soon as possible.
On receipt of the Procès-Verbal, the Doctoral School's Registrar's Office draws up the Attestation de Réussite (Attestation of Success) for the HDR diploma. This is an important document, as it is a provisional diploma, the final one not being issued until 12 months after the date of defense.

Candidates are under no obligation to publish their HDR work,
However, if you wish to do so, it is up to you to choose which platform to use.
